A mixed Tug of War. This photograph
dates from 1915

Robert
Riddle (1919-25) lent this photo to Gill Jackson who featured it
in the 2000 Magazine - the caption was "Walking round."
Colin
McLaurin Jones (1921-25) former Rawdonian, has been able to identify
some of pupils:
'The centre pair in the photograph
are Marjorie Buckley later Kirby and Mark Jackson. On the far right are Gwen
Wells and Fred Northern. In the background, Mary Spark - boy not recognisable. On
the left hand side there are two girls together, the one on the right
is Doris Burton (Blakeway), known as 'Big Fishy', she had a sister
known as 'Little Fishy'. The girl behind those two is Evelyn Nicholson,
don't recognise the boy."
Colin is always a wonderful source of information. |

Getting almost up-to-date. The
scene depicted is either 1949 or 1951 - and the wooden rowing boat
which "arrived" - the rower is Brian Smith (1949-53). Tony Browne thinks it is Peter Martin (1951-57) sitting in the stern.
Tony Browne (1947-53)
was the photographer |

Tony
Browne (1947-53) has supplied this further photo of the rowing boat
taken around 1951 - this time being flooded to swell the planks and
prevent leaking. Water can be seen pouring out of the hull so there's
a long way to go.
Those in the picture are - left to right:
Derek Barnes(1946-52), John Fothergill (1947-53), ??, Dick Dennis
(1944-52) with the bucket, and Alwyn Williams (1950-55.) |

The
School Orchestra photographed in the Meeting House, in the 50s, before
the alterations to install a window overlooking the graveyard. Bernard
Coates can be seen hiding behind his double bass.
There is now a much larger version of this photo on a separate page. When you place your mouse pinter over the head of any one of the Orchestra, a box with a number will appear. If the name is known that will have been added, if not and you can provide the name, just e-mail and give the number and name(s) - christian and family names please. |
