Situation and Buildings

Situation and
Grounds

The School is beautifully situated at the foot of the Cleveland Hills, and lies quite close to "Roseberry Topping.” Its height above sea level is nearly 300 feet, and the School estate exceeds 60 acres. The front view of the main block from the Village Green is somewhat severe, and gives little idea of the extent of the buildings or of the beauty of the grounds on the south aide. If, however, we enter by the "Coach Road,” a name reminiscent of more primitive modes of travelling than those possible today, the extent and beauty of the property is apparent. Apart from the School Farm and Orchard Gardens, about fifteen acres are reserved for lawns, asphalt play-grounds, tennis courts, football, cricket and hockey fields. The immediate surroundings of the School are beautifully wooded, while the River Leven flowing through the grounds, bordered by sheltered  walks and overhanging trees and broken by two waterfalls, adds greatly to the charm of the scene. The environment is ideal for boarding school life, and the value to children of spending some of the most impressionable years of their lives amid such surroundings cannot be over-estimated.

Health The health record of the School is exceptionally good, and the bracing air and the plain wholesome diet conduce to physical fitness.
Sanatorium A new Sanatorium was erected in 1921 It contains eight wards - six of which open out on to a Verandah on the south side and ample accommodation is provided in case of sickness. A fully trained Nurse is in charge.
