Gym and Lecture Room - with Gym display in progress - photo 1903

This photo has been scanned from a postcard and the captions is: "A corner of the boys' playground."

This neatly tells us where the building above fits in the School layout. "A" Dorm' and the Science Room can just be seen in the middle of the picture.

School Dining Room - 1903

Ayton School Dining Room photographed in 1903.

There is a photo in the "Life at School" section showing a similar scene but with pupils and staff seated (and trying very hard not to move.)

Ayton School Tin Gym Ayton School Tin Gym - the original Sports Hall. This corrugated gothic structure was also the School theatre - cinema - exam room - dance floor - plus quite a lot more.

Roy George kindly provided an original fund-raising brochure from the time when the School Sports Hall was being planned, from which this has been scanned and published here.

Not many of the younger Ayton School pupils have ever heard of the Tin Gym, never mind seen it. Jill Jackson - Annual Report Editor - would like to research the Tin Gym, so if you have any information about the history - origins and fate - and more photos if possible - of the Tin Gym  please let her know.  AOSA-editor@manannan.org.im

The "San." There must be many memories of this place - not least the creaking timber-work when the central heating came on / went off.

The "San'," the site of which is now covered with houses. There must be many memories of this place - not least the creaking timber-work when the central heating came on / went off.

There is a separate page which details the San history.
